This little side trip (gaiden) is called something like Turn Back the Pendulum in the manga – it tells how the captains of the present came to be, how the Visoreds were created, why Kisuke and Yoruichi left Soul Society, and a great deal of history and background information that helps to round out the current Bleach storyline.

these turn back the pendulum episodes are good and provide lots of information as to how things came to be. now im gonna have to start reading the manga and even as a kid Ichimaru`s a little wierdo and aizen was caught spying on urahara by his captain kinda tells me something…

I liked the choices here. Mayuri and Gin’s parts made perfect sense. This fit well with Gin’s comment that Hitsuguya (as a prodigy) was so very rare and dangerous (just like Gin…) and with Mayuri’s general lack of concern for others.
Kisuke, Byakuya and Yoruichi are three of my favorites so I am enjoying their backstories. Some of the vizards seem interesting, but we have not gotten enough of most of them to really know (Hiyori is not my favorite, Shinji is growing on me, some of the others might be cool, Kensei? That one girl? That other guy? Hachi?).
By the way, which was the fourth noble house (Shinouin, Kuchiki, Shiba and __ )?

Aww Byakuya Was sooo cute and funny! I don’t believe he smiled strate away! He’s totally diferent from what he is now but Yoruichi and him were really funny! xD

Mayuri is still bad-ass! Gin was so cute, he still is…he reminds me of a fox, or a fox kit (a baby fox) in this case…Byakuya was so adorable, even in the past! I love the captin’s smile, and the soon to be Lutenant really looks like Ichigo, now that I look at him closely…:)

The soon to be VC? Do you guys mean Kaien Shiba? The one Rukia kills and later Arancar #9 absorbs the Hollow that absorbed Kaien and takes his form? He does look like a dark-haired Ichigo, but that isn’t Isshin (Ichi’s dad).
You guys got me hopeful, I would like to see what is happening with Isshin.
